The longevity and consistent success of Ron Warhurst’s career is why he is one of the most respected coaches in middle distance running. Beyond the 36 years he served as head cross country coach at the University of Michigan, his career continues to impress as his athletes are competitive at the highest levels. While a sub-four minute mile is a rare accomplishment for an athlete, Ron can lay claim to personally coaching 20 athletes to sub four-minute times. In addition, he has coached seven Olympians, two Olympic medalists, achieved 11 NCAA titles, and won 146 All American awards. By titling the men’s mile in his name, the MTC hopes to recognize not only his coaching accolades, but also thank him for instilling knowledge and passion into so many young athletes over the years.
